A press release announcing that Orbital has been officially accepted as a participant in the United Nations Global Compact ESG initiative.

London-Tallinn-Gibraltar: Orbital, as a leading fintech provider of traditional and blockchain payment solutions, proudly announces it has joined the UN Global Compact. The UN Global Compact is a principles-based framework for responsible business. It calls on companies to respect human rights, labour rights, environment and anti-corruption.

“Running a successful and responsible business is perhaps more challenging today than ever before, and environment issues, social issues and corporate governance are important aspects for any responsible business,” said Chris Mason, Co-founder & CEO of Orbital. “Our values and principles are fundamental to our success at Orbital, and we are committed to aligning to the ten principles of the UN Global Compact initiative, so contributing to this initiative is important for us in joining the promotion of corporate social responsibility globally.”

The Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact

As a participant of the UN Global Compact programme, Orbital support and adhere to The Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact:

Human Rights

  • Principle 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights.
  • Principle 2: Make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.

Labour

  • Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining.
  • Principle 4: The elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour.
  • Principle 5: The effective abolition of child labour.
  • Principle 6: The elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.

Environment

  • Principle 7: Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges.
  • Principle 8: Undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility.
  • Principle 9: Encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.

Anti-Corruption

  • Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.

By incorporating the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact into strategies, policies and procedures, and establishing a culture of integrity, companies are not only upholding their basic responsibilities to people and the planet, but also setting the stage for long-term success. We encourage other organisations to sign-up where possible, and more information can be found here
